The session covered on creating interactive video tutorials. Although I have always wanted to make such videos and even tried in the past, I did not have enough time to explore the process fully. This session provided an excellent opportunity to learn and achieve my goal of creating interactive videos. These videos will allow students not only to watch content but also to assess their understanding by answering questions embedded within the tutorials. We were introduced to several tools for this purpose, including LOOM, ScreenPal, NearPod, and H5P on VLE. These tools are useful for creating video content or enhancing existing tutorials by making them interactive.
LOOM is a tool for recording both the screen and narration. It is useful for creating short, clear tutorials and allows for easy sharing with students.
ScreenPal enables users to record their screen and themselves at the same time. It is a simple and effective way to create personalized tutorials, allowing instructors to explain concepts while displaying related content. It also supports self-paced learning, as students can watch the tutorials at their convenience.
NearPod is designed for interactive learning. It allows instructors to add quizzes, polls, and multimedia content directly into the video, encouraging active participation from students.
H5P on VLE allows teachers to embed questions, comments, and other activities directly into videos, making them more interactive. It also enables teachers to track students' progress and understanding.
We have also covered a session on
eXeLearning which is an open-source tool used for creating and publishing educational content. It allows teachers to design interactive and engaging digital resources without requiring advanced technical skills. The tool supports the development of web-based content, which can be exported in formats like HTML, SCORM, or IMS to integrate with Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Moodle.
These tools are beneficial for both students and teachers. Teachers can reduce their workload by using videos to guide students while monitoring their progress. At the same time, students can learn at their own pace, accessing the materials from anywhere and reviewing as needed. These tools provide an effective way to improve teaching and learning, and I look forward to using them in my lessons.
